I have taken up acrylic painting. After I attended a few of those “painting & wine” parties where an instructor teaches everyone how to paint the same picture, and my paintings didn’t suck, I thought I would take a few “real” classes and see where I ended up. Anywho, I was looking for an artsy-type hobby outside of graphics because dragging the laptop out is the last thing I want to do at the end of the day, and I needed to be inspired creatively.
Downriver Council for the Arts in Wyandotte has a drop in class on Saturday for a drop in fee of $15, I have the freedom to paint what I choose, and an instructor is there for guidance and to add a funny antecdote or story. I am starting to find painting is better and cheaper than a therapy session.
Whether or not I get good remains to be seen, but what a great way to quiet a busy mind. I have painted 4 pictures including the one I have as my featured pictured. I was told I should name my paintings, so I got all Sylvia Plath and named it “Moon over a Misty Bluff”. Deciding on a name for your painting is hard, I kept this one in my living room and stared at it between watching nights of Survivor, Dancing with the Stars and Teen Mom 2. (sorry ’bout that last one, but I love Teen Mom 2.) I found the colors of the painting disturbingly beautiful. I am happy with the results.
I am gaining some confidence as I learn. Luckily, there are many resources out there on YouTube and painting blogs/websites. Of course, practice makes “almost” perfect, so I will Keep Calm and Paint On.
I added a Gallery Page to the website to show my most recent work.
